Living with a idol can be difficult for the best of people. Unfortunately for Rei and her father, her mother's childhood fame had left a black mark on their familial relationship. Her mother had been big in the late 90's and early 00's but had to give up her spot in the spotlight when she got pregnant with Rei. A fact she never lets Rei forget. From a young age Rei was pampered by her father and taught to be the best actress and musician she could be by her mother. Years with vocal coaches to tame a stutter, dance instructors, acting lessons, auditions day in and day out.
Eventually an agency scouted Rei when she was just 14.
She quickly made it a point to change her identity, choosing "Hotaru" as a stage name to further distance herself from her parents. Her time as a solo act with her parents made her curious about the life of an idol group, though she would break away after only a few months, preferring her comfortable, if lonely, was of life to the cramped lifestyle of climbing with a group.
She made her first public break as Hotaru on her 16th birthday, and although she continues to work as if her parents were still breathing down her neck she is still relatively unknown, leaving her free to walk in the public with out being accosted by fans, something she doesn't envy about other idols. She likes it just fine when she can disappear in a crowd.
